I COULD SLURP BEFORE I COULD WALK
CEREAL? I’D PREFER A PIE
OBSESSED WITH WICKED WINGS
SERIOUSLY, I’M A GLASS & A HALF
New Zealand born and raised in Australia from the early age of 2, I’m first generation Vietnamese-Australian but still goes for the All Blacks from time to time (depends who wins really). The gook family are refugees who fled Vietnam by boat many years ago and ended up in oz.
My earliest food memories is cheekily eating KFC from the bucket with my older sister in the corner of the room, my ba (grandmother) chasing the duck in the kitchen on Chinese New Year, yum-cha on a saturday morning chewing chicken feet and slurping many a bowl of pho for breakfast.
IT WAS THESE EARLY GOOK MOMENTS THAT HAVE MADE ME LOVE FOOD.
The gook is about honest accounts of food experiences that range from sensational or mouth-watering to just okay or mediocre, but may also hit the ‘not so good’ or ‘damn-right disappointing’. NOTE, even accidental mistakes or burnt bits make an appearance .
The gook is about the everyday asian cook.
