Feels exhilarating yet a little worrying writing this post.
Did I really eat all of that in twenty-twelve? Unfortunately, blog posts don’t lie and the year that was bought some stunning dishes and food memories to the forefront. As for New Years Resolutions, I’ve never been one to make them. But I did set some new goals back in November that should keep me busy and take at least a year (or so) to complete.
So cheers to twenty-twelve and here’s hoping twenty-thirteen is going to take life to another level. Let’s look back at the year that was…
ONE – HAWAII
TWO – FOOD SAFARIS
Girls, food n’ lots of gossip with a side of wine and great service. These will be making a comeback in 2013 even bigger and better. We’re thinking a south coast summer safari is on the cards or a picnic in the park – grazing the day away.
THREE – MELBOURNE CAFE HOP
Three days, four girls – averaging 5 cafes a day plus bars at night. A caffeine overload plus pure gluttony. And we topped it off by staying at Crown Melbourne - bliss. See more of it here, here, here or here.
FOUR – SLURPING
This year I made pho more than any other year – it must have been cold! I promise my recipe will be up in 2013 – so you can join the slurp with me.
FIVE – FRIED CHICKEN
Yes, there were months where my weekends revolved around my obsession with crispy crunchy deep-fried chicken. I didn’t discriminate and KFC made quite a few appearances. My favourite local wings were at Chat Thai. But Leoda’s fried chicken from Maui also ranked quite high. Need a fix of this at home? Try my crispy asian chicken wings version here.
SIX – BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS
So many of my weekends started at Wedge Espresso ordering the breakfast board with either a latte or cold drip. I even left my phone there once. Luckily for me, they saved it and noted ‘your instagram was going off’ when I picked up my phone – how embarrassing.
SEVEN – COOKING
My most viewed recipe of twenty-twelve was my Crunchy Asian Salad – have you tried it yet?
EIGHT – PUB GRUB
Who else has confit duck legs on top of porcini, truffle and walnut risotto finished with some fresh rocket and a drizzle of orange oil on the menu? Ummm, no other pub than the Botany View Hotel. I hail the Botany View Hotel my favourite pub and my local even though I’ve moved. The chicken burger is tops too.
NINE -MEAT UPS
Four is the magic number of Meatups I attended this year (I think!). Each meatup was different. The moment I still bleet on about are these pork buns from Bar H Chinese New Year Meatup – if only they could do these takeaway – I’d be their best customer.
TEN – CHEF CRUSH
Who could blame me, he’s French?!
ELEVEN – HOME BREW
I let you in on my favourite coffee gadget that leaves the milk behind.
TWELVE – LET THERE BE CAKE
This cake made it’s debut towards the end of twenty-twelve but saw a fast rise to become part of my recipe repertoire. It’s super quick and made an appearance at Chrissy dinner – that says a lot.
